"Karapatan ng Bawat Bata, Ating Tutukan!"

Image
The Philippines celebrates the National Children’s Month (NCM) every November by virtue of Republic Act No. 10661 to recognize children as the most valuable assets of the nation and to emphasize the importance of their role within the Filipino family and the Philippine society. This declaration commemorates the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the United Nations General Assembly on 20 November 1989, and seeks to instill its significance in the Filipino consciousness. In response to this grave issue, the government has established a commendably strong legal and institutional defense for children. The cornerstone of this protection is the enactment of Republic Act No. 11930 (Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials Act), which provides a modern, comprehensive framework to penalize perpetrators and impose accountability on technology platforms. Furthermore, the collaborative enforcement model involvi...

"The Intrinsic Value of Intramural Sports"

Image
Intramural sports are a cornerstone of institutional life, providing a universally accessible platform for physical activity, social connection, and personal development within the walls of a school or university. Derived from the Latin intra muros ("within the walls"), these programs intentionally stand apart from highly selective varsity athletics by championing participation over performance. Their true value lies in their ability to foster a well-rounded and cohesive community.   The defining characteristic of intramurals is their radical inclusivity. They offer an outlet for students, faculty, and staff of all skill levels, from those who have never played a sport to former high school athletes. This accessibility ensures that the physical and psychological benefits of organized play are widely distributed. Intramural involvement is a critical tool for combating sedentary lifestyles, promoting general health, and providing a necessary release valve for the academic s...

"Visit The Beauty of San Ildefonso"

Image
San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur, is known for its unique vegetable ice cream, traditional products like basi (sugarcane wine) and cane vinegar, and a history that includes a name change to honor a Spanish King. The town's name was changed from "Bulak" to "San Ildefonso" in 1809 by a Filipino priest, Father Juan dela Rosa, who was also its first Filipino priest.  The San Ildefonso Church known as San Ildefonso de Toledo Parish Church in San Ildefonso, Ilocos Sur, is a testament to resilience and faith, with a modern facade built atop the remnants of an older structure that has stood since 1821. Its compelling story is one of a vision that was partially realized, now a blend of history and contemporary rebuilding, where the weathered side walls of the original church are still visible. This creates a unique and poignant experience for visitors who can witness firsthand the passage of time and the town's commitment to preserving its heritage, even as the...

"Science and Creativity"

Image
The National Science Month celebration in 2025 used the theme "Harnessing the Unknown: Powering the Future through Science and Innovation" to highlight how science and creativity are crucial for progress. Schools and organizations hosted events like contests and activities to encourage curiosity, innovation, and a love for discovery in students.  The relationship between Science and Society the coming decades will be defined by accelerating scientific convergence, rapid technological diffusion, and a heightened need for ethical governance and public engagement to address complex global challenges. The dynamic, two-way influence—where science drives societal change and societal needs shape research priorities—will intensify across all sectors.  The primary challenge will be ensuring that scientific and technological benefits are distributed equitably and managed ethically. The potential for exacerbating inequalities—between nations, communities, and individuals w...

Second Quarter Reflection

This quarter was a period of significant academic and personal growth. I discovered new things about subjects, and just as importantly, about myself and how I learn best. I discovered the value of checking my notes first before immediately asking the teacher for help. This forced me to process the information independently and boosted my confidence in my ability to find solutions. While the quarter was productive, I faced a few predictable challenges that tested my perseverance. My biggest challenge was still procrastinating on large assignments, particularly my ICT vlogs. I often waited until the last two days, which led to a stressful rush and lower-quality work than I know I am capable of. I took specific steps to deal with the problems I encountered, showing flexibility and determination. I addressed this by using the "Five-Minute Rule." For every large task, I committed to working on it for just five minutes as soon as it was assigned. This small initial effort broke th...

"Filipinos Resiliency is What's Keeping Them Alive"

Image
The Philippines' location makes it highly susceptible to both sudden and progressive environmental shifts. Global climate change is the overwhelming factor that intensifies these natural threats. Fossil fuels – coal, oil and gas – are by far the largest contributor to global climate change, accounting for around 68 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions and nearly 90 per cent of all carbon dioxide emissions. As greenhouse gas emissions blanket the Earth, they trap the sun’s heat. Because of this, the planet is warming up and the climate is changing. The world is now warming faster than at any point in recorded history. Warmer temperatures over time are changing weather patterns and disrupting the usual balance of nature. This possess many risks to human beings and all other forms of life on Earth. Many Filipino have been suffering from this international issue. They lost their source of saving, like the farmers. Their plants died from constant changing of the weathe...

"My Teacher, My Hero"

Image
Teachers' Day is a day to celebrate how teachers are transforming education but also to reflect on the support they need to fully deploy their talent and vocation, and to rethink the way ahead for the profession globally. World Teachers’ Day is held annually on 5 October to celebrate all teachers around the globe. On the teachers' month celebration, we surprised all of the teachers to express our gratitude and respect towards them. We prepared our surprises with joy and excitement knowing their reactions is worth all the tiring times we had spent on preparing it. As to all the teachers, we, your students, are very thankful for all the sacrifices that you made and continue making, for believing that we can achieve our dreams and be successful in the future when no one else believed in us, and for giving all your efforts to teach us morality, and other important things in life. You're our second mom/dad since you taught us some things our parents can't teach us We all p...
